The Summit of the Future, taking place on September 22nd and 23rd in NY, is a high-level event that will bring together world leaders to forge a new international consensus on how we deliver a better present and safeguard the future.
The Summit has the ambition to shape a world, and an international system, that is better prepared to manage the challenges we face now and in the future. Not only are regions important partners to enrich the debate on creating policies that are fit for the future: they also have important levers to tackle global challenges.
That’s why the Flemish Government and Regions4 have organized the side event “Global Challenges, Regional Solutions – Regions leading on Future-proof policy making”. Taking place during the Action Days preceding the Summit of the Future, the event will explore how regions are stepping up to address global challenges through innovative, strategic foresight and localized approaches. This will contribute to building the case for a stronger involvement of subnational governments in a renewed multilateral system.
Foresight was already explicitly mentioned in the report “Our common agenda” in which SG Guterres, in 2021, kicked off the process that will culminate in the Summit of the Future. For example, the importance of Foresight was emphasized in policy brief “To Think and Act for Future Generations”, stating that better use of foresight, data and science helps us to evaluate the future impact of our actions.
After the session, we warmly welcome you to a networking reception – a perfect chance to connect with fellow attendees, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations.
