The Regions4 global community will meet in Rio de Janeiro, from June 26 to 28, to call on national governments, the United Nations and international organisations to fully support subnational governments in delivering global goals on the ground.
The General Assembly will be held under the theme “Empowered Regions Shaping a Sustainable, Just and Resilient Future”. Around 80 representatives from subnational governments around the world will be present to call for a renewed UN system that empowers subnational governments to lead the way in achieving transformative actions today for a sustainable tomorrow. The Government of Rio de Janeiro will be the host of this year’s Assembly.
Back-to-back with the G-20 Sherpa Meeting, taking place in the same city, Regions4 General Assembly will make clear that the time has come for a multilateral system that includes robust subnational government involvement, and that Regions4 has a key role to play in forging stronger positioning within a renewed system capable of harmonizing the climate, biodiversity and sustainable development agendas.
Highlights of the General Assembly are the adoption of ‘The Rio de Janeiro Declaration’ and the welcoming of the new political leadership, including the new Regions4 presidency. Delegates will have the opportunity to engage with the renewed Regions4 leadership, fellow and new members and to participate in High-Level political dialogues, open exchanges and technical workshops with a focus on finance for resilience.
The time has come to recognize that subnational governments play a pivotal role in translating global goals into practical and localized actions. The hybrid event will be held on from Wednesday 26th of June at 9:00 BRT (UTC-3) to Thurday 27th of June – 17:30 BRT (UTC-3). English, Portuguese, Spanish and French interpretation will be provided. Check your local time here.
Join us in Rio de Janeiro, to work together in strengthening subnational leadership towards a just, resilient, and sustainable future, where humanity and nature thrive in harmony.
