Since 2003 the United Nations General Assembly celebrates the UN Public Service Awards (UNPSA) which recognizes and honours the excellency in public service at the global level, highlighting its contributions in the sustainable development process and acknowledges the work of public servants, encouraging young people to pursue careers in this sector.

In 2016, the UNPSA was aligned with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Its main purpose is to promote and reward innovation in public service in support of the realization of the SDGs and its principal to leave no one behind. Since its first edition, the UNPSA has had more than 4000 initiatives from 82 countries and over 250 initiatives have received the Award recognizing their work for a better future.
