Regions4 Messages for the International Day for Biological Diversity 2020

One of the highlights of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) COP15 will be the adoption of the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, a new global framework for managing nature 2030 with 21 targets and 10 ‘milestones’ proposed for 2030. Regions4 will be in the frontline, a pioneering international network that seeks to empower and position regional governments as the agents that can most directly act against the challenge posed by climate change and biodiversity loss.

The aim of Regions4 during this CBD COP15 is to support subnational leaders in their advocacy efforts towards the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, as coordinators of the Advisory Committee on Subnational Governments to the CBD, together with the Government of Quebec, and as partners of the Edinburgh Process. The post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework is a historical opportunity for subnational governments to be recognized for the role they will play in the implementation of the new framework, but also, to define the enabling conditions that will allow its successful implementation at all levels of government.

The RegionsVoice Campaign on the road to COP15 showcases 9 examples of subnational governments key role for the effective implementation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, giving visibility to their leading actions and commitments for biodiversity conservation, shared at the International Day for Biological Diversity 2020.
